Departure

Tomorrow I move to Budapest, Hungary.

It’s an incredible feeling to know that I am about to dive into an adventure, and to take on a challenge that will truly test my abilities. It’s an even better feeling to know that I will spend a year exploring a city dubbed both the “hidden jewel” and the “hipster capital” of Europe.

It’s going to be a good year.

For a couple of months I wasn’t completely sure where I would be teaching. However I can now officially announce that I will be teaching English at Óbudai Nagy László Általános Iskola: Váradi Iskola (Old Buda Elementary School: Varadi School).

I had to add the Hungarian name. Please take a moment to admire that crazy language. Wish me luck!

I will be the English teacher for the 5th grade science, civilization, music, art, PE, and IT classes. Yeah. This is going to be a blast.  I can’t wait to start making activities for the science class in particular. After all, this may be my one and only chance to create an army of little mad scientists.  I can’t let this opportunity pass by, right? Or maybe I’ll just try to instill a love for learning in these kids. We’ll see.

On another note, I recently completed a short bucket-list of things to see and do in Georgia before I leave. Georgia is such a beautiful state, and this is the only place that has ever felt like home. I’ll miss it.

I hope that you will all feel free to visit me.

See you next year, America.
