I have been in bed all day due to a wicked virus. It has spread across the schools like the plague, and my fellow teachers are dropping like flies. I blame the second grader who always wants to hold my hand.
Anyway, I thought that I could use this time to post pictures of everything that I have seen so far in Budapest.
Soot-Stained and War-Scarred Buildings
Years of war left their mark on Budapest. Some buildings remain black and stained, while others are peppered with bullet holes. I’ll try to get some pictures of bullet holes.
Colorful Buildings in the Castle District
Beautiful Churches
The Largest Synagogue in Europe

St. Matthias Church
One of my favorite sights- The Tiled Roofs of Budapest
Fisherman’s Bastion
Incredible Statues
King Matthias
The Bridges of the Danube
Elisabeth Bridge, Chain Bridge, and Liberty Bridge
Ruin Pubs!
I should have mentioned this earlier. After the fall of communism, old factories and tenement houses were converted into pubs. Pubs like Szimpla Kert extend far into the building, hold many rooms with eclectic decorations, and they often have an open-air courtyard.
I’ll take more photos soon!
And of course, Parliament
I still have a long list of things to see. I’m hoping to explore Buda Castle and the underground dungeons this week.
