Molded by the raging English Channel, it’s a rugged landscape of gale-blown grasslands and sharp-edged boulders. Wave after wave bombards this jagged coastline and threatens the small sailboats gliding by.
But, in their defense stands one lonely lighthouse. Towering over this treeless isle, Portland Bill guards the shore and forewarns the ships who tread too close.

We visited the Isle of Portland during our road trip along the Jurassic Coast this past July. It was one of my favorite points of interest during the trip, and the perfect little day trip from Weymouth. We only spent a couple of hours on the island, but we loved walking along the beautiful coast and climbing on the massive boulders. The weather was perfect when we visited, and we were lucky enough to watch Starlings gather around the lighthouse to create the perfect seaside scene.
